United Kingdom Independence Party leader Nigel Farage slammed attempts to get members of the Electoral College to reverse their votes and cast ballots against President-elect Donald Trump as "disgusting" Monday, comparing the move to protests against the Brexit vote.
"I think it's quite disgusting to try to get delegates to reverse their votes today of all days," Farage, who supported Trump at several events during his campaign for the presidency, told Fox News' "Fox & Friends." "I don't believe it is going to happen. It would be absolutely monstrous if it did."
Farage said there have been "sort of violent protests" following the Brexit vote, and he would anticipate protests in the United States over the Electoral College's upcoming vote for Trump as well.
"We even had a left-wing member of Parliament claim that maybe Russian hacking is why we all voted for Brexit," Farage told the program. "It's the same miserable list of excuses from people who have had it their own way too long. I'm sure things will go just fine."
Farage further believes Trump is "absolutely right" to go out on his tour to thank voters, while also slamming President Barack Obama as a weak leader.
"[Trump] got these people to vote for him, despite the fact they were told terrible things would happen to America if Trump won," Farage said. "It is what we call 'Project Fear.'"
When it comes to Obama, "we had a very similar prime minister," Farage said, likely referring to former Prime Minister David Cameron, who stepped down following the Brexit vote.
"It is all about virtue signaling. It is about sharing the international community, wonderful values you hold and in a sense that's why we have got Brexit."
That is also why Trump won the election, Farage said.
"You have had enough politicians to try to make themselves look good and don't appear to really give a damn about ordinary people," he added.
He also said it is "self-delusion" for Obama to say the United States is better now than it was eight years ago when he took office.
"It is someone coming to the end of a very disappointing eight years doing his very best to write the history books," Farage said. "We have been your oldest and closest ally for a very long time. Let me tell you, not only is Obama's reputation here lower than I can think of, but actually, America's reputation is lower.
"We used to be friends. We used to get along together. We saw an American president looking to [German President Angela] Merkel as being boss."
Obama also "watched the rise of ISIS and appeared to be completely helpless," Farage said. "I think America these days, I'm sorry to say this, but it looks a lot weaker than it has in a long time."
Farage said the British media seems to be "almost universally against Trump," but then again, "almost everybody in politics was against Trump."
However, he continued, that is changing, and Trump and people around him do value the relationship between England and the United States.
"There are things we shared together over 100 years," Farage said. "Liberty and democracy would have died completely in Europe and part of the rest of the world. The Trump administration wants to have a proper trade deal. I think that matters.
"I also think we need to recognize that NATO, yeah, it may need redefining, but we have got to get people to start paying their way, or I think Britain and America could work closely together on that project. I am genuinely excited about the prospects of both of us now."
