A new analysis of early voting in North Carolina suggests Democrat Hillary Clinton could win the state by as much as six points.
The New York Times' Upshot predicts that Clinton has a 22 percent lead among the 968,000 people who have already cast their vote in North Carolina.
A closer look at voting history and demographics leads the website to think Clinton will take the Tar Heel State by six points, 49.1 percent to 43.1 percent, when all the votes are tallied after election day on Nov. 8.
The current RealClear Politics polling average shows Clinton with a 2-point lead among North Carolina voters.
Other estimates from the Times analysis:
- Trump leads among whites who have voted, 50 percent to 44 percent
- Clinton has significant leads among blacks (96 percent) and Hispanics (80 percent) who have already cast their vote
- Clinton leads the early voting among all age groups
A report this week claimed the early voting results nationwide bode well for Trump with less than two weeks to go before election day.
