Poll: Support Increases on Trump's Handling of North Korea

Forty-two percent of Americans now approve of President Donald Trump's handling of North Korea, while 50 percent disapprove of it, according to a new CBS News poll.

The figures are an increase from January when 34 percent approved of how he was dealing with the regime of Kim Jong Un and 59 percent disapproved.

Here is how the poll breaks down:

  • 81 percent of Republicans approve of the way Trump is dealing with North Korea, compared to 16 percent who disapprove.
  • 10 percent of Democrats favor trump's handling of North Korea, while 82 percent did not.
  • 44 percent of independents approve of the way Trump is dealing with North Korea, while 44 percent disapprove.
  • 64 percent of all those surveyed expressed uneasiness about the situation with North Korea, compared to 32 percent who were confident it would be resolved without conflict.
  • 38 percent approve of the way Trump is handling his job as president, while 57 percent disapprove.

The poll, conducted March 8-11, surveyed 1,223 adults. The margin of error is plus or minus 3 percentage points.
