Rep. Darin LaHood, R-Ill., the National Republican Congressional Committee finance chair said on Friday that members of the GOP who voted to impeach former President Donald Trump for a second time will “absolutely” receive funds for their reelection bids.
LaHood told Politico in a phone interview that retaking the House in 2022 is the party’s top priority, and that financially punishing Republicans won’t help achieve that goal, so the GOP members of the House who voted to impeach Trump will “absolutely” receive funds for their reelection campaigns.
"If we are going to become the majority party — which I think we will — you’ve got to accept that we’re a big tent," he said, noting that Republicans vary state by state.
"I have tried to take that philosophy and that attitude of that’s how we’ll become the majority party," LaHood added.
"I look at our freshman class that just came in, and that diversity is what we have to build off."
Although Politico notes that he didn’t directly address the divide in the party over impeachment, which 10 Republicans voted for in the House, but he did note that "there’s a lot at stake."
A spokesperson for the committee added in an email: "The NRCC’s stance has not changed. We support our members in general elections and do not get involved in primaries. We look forward to building on last cycle’s successes and retaking the majority."
