Ted Cruz has not received the warmest of receptions as he campaigns in New York City this week — but things got really bad on Thursday as the liberal New York Daily News trumpeted one of its most insulting headlines ever about the conservative Texas senator.
The newspaper — reporting on Cruz's disastrous visit to the Bronx on Wednesday during which students at one school threatened to walk out if he showed up — splashed across its front page:
"TAKE THE F U TRAIN, TED!"
It other headlines the News crowed: "Cruz lustily jeered in bungled boro tour" and "Honey, how do we get out of the Bronx?"
And New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio even got in on the action when asked on CNN for his two-cents on the Daily News front page. "A lot of New Yorkers are feeling that today," de Blasio said.
The Daily News, which also insulted Cruz by saying he got a "zero's welcome" in the Bronx, has gone after him in the past.
In January, Cruz talked about his dislike of "New York values" on the Fox Business Network.
"Everyone understands that the values in New York City are socially liberal or pro-abortion or pro-gay marriage, focus around money and the media," he said.
The Daily News quickly went to work with a front-page cartoon of the Statue of Liberty flipping him the bird and the headline:
"DROP DEAD, TED … You don't like N.Y. values? Go back to Canada!"
