President Barack Obama continues to lose support from California voters with his disapproval rating increasing eight points since July, according to the latest Field Poll published Tuesday.

The president's disapproval rating has increased from 35 percent to 43 percent in the Golden Gate State, while the Field Poll survey taken from Nov. 14-Dec. 1 of 766 registered California voters finds that 51 percent of those polled still approve of the president's job performance, down just one percentage point from the 53 percent that approved of Obama in July.

Since the beginning of Obama's second term, the president's approval rating has taken an 11 point plunge in the Golden Gate State from 62 percent in February down to 51 percent in December, and his disapproval numbers have increased 10 points overall.

The number of Democrats who now say they disapprove of the president's job performance has doubled since February from nine percent to 18 percent today. He has also lost significant ground with independents and women. Forty percent of independents now say they disapprove of the president, up from 24 percent in February, a 16 point increase. Female voters' disapproval numbers have jumped 13 percentage points from 27 percent to 40 percent during the same time period.

California voters are increasingly skeptical of the president's handling of his signature healthcare law and foreign policy. Fifty percent of Californians now disapprove of Obama's handling of healthcare, with 43 percent approving. Those in the Golden Gate State approve of the president's handling of foreign policy 49-40 percent.

When asked to appraise the direction of the country, Californians have made a significant reversal since September 2012 when 52 percent said they thought the country was headed in the right direction and 41 percent saying it was on the wrong track. Only 33 percent now say the country is doing well overall and 55 percent saying the nation "is seriously on the wrong track."

This poll comes a little over a year since Obama won California's 55 electoral votes with 59 percent of the vote.
