Fifty-one percent of Americans think President Donald Trump should not support efforts to repeal the Affordable Care Act, a recent Quinnipiac University poll finds.
House Republicans this week introduced the American Health Care Act, which eliminates tax penalties on individuals who do not have healthcare, phases out the expansion of Medicaid, offers flat-rate tax credits, and imposes late-enrollment penalties on people who do not stay on continuous coverage, among other items.
Forty-nine percent of voters think Trump and Republicans in Congress should move ahead and repeal parts of Obamacare, while 27 percent say there should be no repeal. Twenty-one percent, meanwhile, say the entire ACA should be repealed.
Trump campaigned on the promise he would repeal and replace Obamacare, calling the healthcare plan a disaster, and Republicans have been determined to get a substitute in place. But many GOP lawmakers have expressed concern with moving so quickly on a replacement, with the new bill receiving a chilly reception from some conservatives.
