President Donald Trump reacted to a judge's decision to hold Paul Manafort in jail on charges of witness tampering by saying his former campaign chairman is getting a bad deal.
U.S. District Judge Amy Berman Jackson ordered Manafort to be held in jail Friday, revoking his bail and the home confinement he has been on since last fall as his federal case regarding money laundering, tax evasion, and other charges is sorted out.
Trump called it a "tough sentence" for Manafort, although it's worth noting that Manafort has not been sentenced, given that his trial has yet to begin.
On June 8, special counsel Robert Mueller — who is leading a Department of Justice investigation into whether the Trump campaign colluded with Russia — filed additional charges of obstructing justice against Manafort and his longtime associate Konstantin Kilimnik.
