House Speaker Paul Ryan in January transferred more than $3.4 million to the National Republican Congressional Committee, the Washington Examiner reported.
The Wisconsin Republican made it his focus to campaign on behalf of House Republicans during election season vs. actively campaigning for Donald Trump, a move that drew backlash at the time.
But it paid off.
"We built a political operation based on the conservative, pro-growth vision Paul Ryan and his colleagues hoped to finally put into action with unified Republican government," a Ryan aide told the Examiner.
"Despite all the challenges of 2016 this strategy worked."
According to the Examiner, Ryan brought in $3.3 million alone from emails sent on behalf of the NRCC.
