In the Republican response to President Barack Obama’s State of the Union address Tuesday, Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan will highlight the parties’ conflicting views toward spending. He “will call for an end to ‘Washington’s spending binge’ that Republicans contend has hampered job creation and piled debt on future generations,” Politico reports.

Paul Ryan, R-Wis.
“In rejecting Obama’s planned call for “targeted investments” — which Republicans contend is a metaphor for more stimulus spending — Ryan reportedly will respond that the ‘spending binge’ of the past two years failed to stem historic unemployment and the nation’s largest deficits.

"Instead, Ryan will emphasize the need to cut federal spending in order to boost job creation.”

Ryan also will stress Republican opposition to Obama’s request for an increase in the debt ceiling until a larger accord is reached on spending cuts.
