President Donald Trump has privately expressed concerns over the pending impeachment proceedings against him, though he thinks the process can still help him get re-elected, Axios reports.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi last week announced impeachment proceedings against Trump following the release of a phone call between the president and Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskiy where Trump asked Zelenskiy to speak to Attorney General William Barr and Rudy Giuliani about reopening a Ukrainian investigation into a Ukrainian gas company connected to Joe Biden’s son, Hunter.

Per a source who spoke with Axios, Trump during a phone call with House Republicans Friday called impeachment “a bad thing to have on your resume.” Two other sources said they recalled Trump phrasing it as, “you don’t want it [impeachment] on your resume.”

After making the remark, Trump quipped: "But it's going to make Kevin speaker,” in reference to House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy.

One person who spoke with Axios said Trump seemed confident he could stop Pelosi from collecting the votes to impeach, while another source said the president understood he would likely get impeached by the House.
