Vice President Mike Pence lauded President Donald Trump's first six months in office, saying he has delivered on his agenda at a "historic pace" and is just getting started.
In an opinion piece for Fox News published on Sunday, Pence wrote, "At a historic pace, this president has taken bold action to restore prosperity, keep Americans safe and secure, and hold government accountable," adding that "as the president likes to say, at this White House that's just what we call a good start."
The vice president touted what he called Trump’s success on the economy, saying he "has signed more laws to slash through federal red tape than any president in American history and has saved businesses up to $18 billion a year in costs … has put a renewed emphasis on American energy," and, after inheriting "an economy that would barely budge … American businesses small and large have already created more than 800,000 new jobs since January."
Pence also promised that the president is "firmly committed to passing the largest tax cut since the days of President Reagan. We'’re going to cut taxes across the board for working families, small businesses and family farms."
The vice president did not mention the various investigations into Russian meddling in the American elections and allegations that the Trump campaign colluded with this effort nor directly confront other criticisms about the administration, such as no major legislative victories, although he did vow that Trump "will not rest and he will not relent until we keep our promise to the American people and repeal and replace Obamacare."
Pence also praised Trump for the appointment of Supreme Court Justice Neil Gorsuch and for signing "the largest increase in defense spending in nearly 10 years," adding that the president "has taken decisive steps to secure our borders and enforce our laws – a direct contrast with the previous administration."
