Rep. Anna Paulina Luna, R-Fla., defended former Fox News host Pete Hegseth, President-elect Donald Trump's nominee to lead the Department of Defense, during his Senate confirmation hearing on Tuesday.
Luna, who attended the hearing to submit letters of support from female veterans as a defense against criticism of Hegseth's past claims that women should not serve in combat, pushed back on claims that Hegseth lacks the necessary experience to lead the Pentagon.
"The one thing that I would like to see in our next secretary of defense, which he checks that box, is he has combat experience," Luna told the Daily Mail.
"We need people that have served in the front lines and understand the gravity of their decisions in that it will impact people. This is a life-death decision," she added.
Luna went on to predict that Hegseth would get confirmed by the Senate even after taking a grilling from Democrats during his confirmation hearing.
