Pete Buttigieg, the 34-year-old mayor of South Bend, Indiana wants to be the next chairman of the Democratic National Committee.

Buttigieg is Harvard University-educated, a Rhodes Scholar and a U.S. Navy Reserve officer. In 2015, Buttigieg publicly announced he was gay, the Indianapolis Star reports.

 

 

The leading candidates for the post include Minnesota Rep. Keith Ellison and Labor Secretary Tom Perez. DNC members are scheduled to vote for the new chair on Feb. 23.
