"Duck Dynasty" star Phil Robertson says he has reached out to the Donald Trump campaign offering his services as spiritual adviser should Trump become president, but hasn't heard back.

In a video posted at Daily Motion, Robertson tells Christian interviewer Gordon James Klingenschmitt he has made multiple inquiries to Trump people and that the people he sent with his message "all laughed when I said it."

But, Robertson added, "the ultimate for America would be we convert Mr. Trump. That way, all the dirt they're gonna drag up on him and all of the indescretions that he's been involved in and the sins he's committed, if he would but be born again he could then tell them, 'That's the old me, I've been born again. This is the new Donald Trump.' It would be a starting point."

Robertson then laid out what appeared to be a fanciful suggestion of himself in a Cabinet meeting with a President Trump.

"There's ol' Newt [Gingrich] or one of those guys that get in there, or [Alabama Sen. Jeff] Sessions, and the camera keeps panning over and they get to me and they say, 'This man is his spiritual adviser,'" he said. "Now that would send a shock wave across America, and the left-wingers would be jumping out of buildings saying, 'It is over as we know it.'"

Robertson admitted it was "just a thought," and said he doesn't know whether Trump has "already converted."

Christian broadcaster James Dobson said in recent weeks he believed Trump may be a "baby Christian," or new convert, though he was criticized by some evangelicals who said he had taken the word of television evangelist Paula White, who has been called an adherent of the "prosperity gospel," though she rejects that label herself.
