A majority of Republican voters believe that a strong stand on the surge of illegal immigrants is more important than repealing Obamacare, according to a survey by the Tea Party Patriots provided for
Breitbart News.
Republican voters were asked by the conservative group what were the most important issues that Congress should be dealing with, including the investigations into the IRS scandal and the Benghazi attacks.
The TPP's pollster found that 34 percent of GOP voters said that preventing thousands of undocumented immigrants, mostly from Central American counties, from crossing the border in south Texas should be the No. 1 priority.
Coming a distant second was Obama's "illegal overreach" by using his executive power, with 24 percent saying that was the most vital issue, closely followed by the repeal of Obamacare with 23 percent.
Only 7 percent of respondents think the IRS conservative targeting probe is the most important issue, while 2.8 percent say the Benghazi probe tops the list, according to Breitbart.
Republicans were also asked why they think that illegal immigrants, many of them children, are pouring into America, and 78 percent said the migrants "have been led to believe that they will be allowed to remain here legally." Only 13 percent believe they are flocking to the United States because they want to "flee violence in their home countries."
The poll also noted that 48 percent of GOP voters think Republican leaders in Congress should listen to their constituents primarily, 17 percent think they should listen to their conscience, while 12 percent think they should listen to low-dollar donors and 7 percent to Republican leaders.
The Tea Party Patriots poll was conducted with 1,000 likely GOP voters on July 24 and has a margin of error of 3.2 percent.
