Midterm Poll: Democrats' Edge Over GOP Dips 10 Points

The Democrats' advantage with registered voters over Republicans in midterm polling has dropped 10 points since February, according to the latest CNN/SSRS survey.

The results, according to CNN:

  • 50 percent of registered voters prefer a Democrat in a generic ballot.
  • 44 percent of registered voters prefer a Republican.

That's down from a 16-point advantage for Democrats in February, and nearly matches January's 5-point Democratic lean, according to CNN's poll.

Other results from the survey, according to CNN:

  • 75 percent of voters overall disapprove of Congress.
  • 18 percent of voters overall approve of Congress.
  • 51 percent of Democrat and left-leaning voters are enthusiastic about voting in November.
  • 36 percent of Republicans and right-leaning voters are enthusiastic.

The CNN poll was conducted by SRSS March 22-25 among a random national sample of 1,014 respondents, including 913 registered voters. Results for the full sample have a margin of sampling error of plus or minus 3.7 percentage points.
