Forty-eight percent of millennial Democrats say they identify as democratic socialists or socialists, a new poll from BuzzFeed News and Maru/Blue reveals.
Here is how the poll breaks down:
- 24 percent of millennial Republicans identify as democratic socialists or socialists.
- 39 percent of all millennial men identify as socialists or democratic socialists, compared to 22 percent of all millennial women.
- 37 percent of all millennial men said if a candidate for office was referred to as a “socialist” it would make them more likely to vote for the person. Nineteen percent of millennial women felt the same way.
- 27 percent of all millennials said they would be less likely to vote for a candidate referred to as a socialist.
The survey did not define “socialist” or “democratic socialist” to those who were questioned.
The poll, conducted Sept. 21-24, surveyed 1,006 millennials. It has a margin of error of 3 percent.
