A plurality of registered voters blame congressional Republicans for the government shutdown, according to the latest Politico/Morning Consult poll.

The results, according to the survey:

  • 41 percent overall blame Republicans.
  • 36 percent overall blame Democrats.
  • 23 percent overall don't know or have no opinion.
  • 34 percent of Independents blame Republicans.
  • 27 percent of Independents blame Democrats.
  • 39 percent of Independents don't know or have no opinion.

Similar polls conducted last week found that more voters would blame Democrats for the shutdown.

Another poll that lumped in President Donald Trump with congressional Republicans found that a plurality of voters blamed Trump and Republicans over Democrats.

However, none of those polls reflects a majority opinion either way.

In this latest Politico poll, 42 percent of voters overall said Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) legislation was worthy enough to shut down the government, while 42 percent overall said it was not.

However, 43 percent of Independents said DACA was not worth shutting down the government, with 35 percent saying it was, according to Politico.

The Politico/Morning Consult poll was conducted Jan. 18-19. The poll surveyed 1,017 registered voters and carries a margin of error of plus or minus 3 percentage points.
