President Donald told Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., he would proudly shut down the government over border security, and now 47 percent of American adults agree this is the president's shutdown.

Thursday's results in the latest Reuters/Ipsos poll show just 33 percent of Americans blame Democrats, just 7 percent blame Republicans, and 47 percent blame President Trump.

As Senate Democrats hold out on the votes Republicans need to pass the final pieces of government appropriations, just 25 percent of the adults polled support President Trump forcing the shutdown for the $5 billion he requested to pay for the wall. Just 35 percent of the adults polled support including border wall funding the bill to fund the rest of government.

Democrats are set to take over the House majority Jan. 3 and figure to quickly pass a bill that will reopen the government, according to The Hill.

The online poll was conducted Dec. 21-25 by Reuters/Ipsos among 2,440 adults, including 946 Democrats and 846 Republicans, with a margin of error of plus or minus 2 percentage points.
