Poll: Americans Want President to Talk About Healthcare in SOTU

A majority of Americans want President Donald Trump to talk about healthcare, along with jobs and the economy in his State of the Union address Tuesday, a new poll found.

In the Morning Consult poll for Politico released Sunday, 59 percent said it’s “very important” for Trump to discuss improving the healthcare system, and 58 percent said the same about the economy and creating jobs.

When including those who said it was “very” or “somewhat” important, more than four in five Americans want to hear the president talk about healthcare, according to the poll.

The poll also found 54 percent of respondents think it’s very important that the president talk about fighting terrorism.

In other findings, the poll found:

  • 51 percent want Trump to talk about poverty in the United States.
  • 30 percent think it’s important he address climate change.
  • About 40 percent think it’s “very important” for Trump to talk about reducing illegal immigration, including 63 percent of Republicans, 27 percent of Democrats and 32 percent of independents.

The poll also asked respondents about the president’s attributes, finding:

  • 57 percent think he’s reckless, 54 percent think he’s profane, 51 percent think he’s sexist, and 46 percent say he’s racist.
  • 43 percent say he’s knowledgeable, 36 percent say he’s stable, 35 percent say he’s honest, and 34 percent say he’s trustworthy.
  • 33 percent say he’s compassionate.

The poll has a margin of error of plus or minus 2 percentage points.
