President Donald Trump's approval rating hit a record low of 41 percent in March, according to the latest 50-state approval tracker by Morning Consult.

Trump recorded a 54 percent disapproval rating in March, a 4-point net drop since February when Trump registered 43 percent approval vs. 52 percent disapproval, according to Morning Consult.

March's results, according to Morning Consult:

  • 19 percent overall strongly approve of Trump.
  • 22 percent somewhat approve of Trump.
  • 13 percent somewhat disapprove of Trump.
  • 41 percent strongly disapprove of Trump.
  • 45 percent of Republicans strongly approve, down 2 points.
  • 13 percent of Independents strongly approve, down 1 point.

Further, Trump's approval rating sunk month-over-month in many states that he carried in the 2016 election.

Those March results:

  • Iowa: 9-point drop in approval since February.
  • Idaho: 6-point drop in approval.
  • Tennessee: 6-point drop in approval.
  • Montana: 5-point drop.
  • Oklahoma: 5-point drop.

However, Trump enjoyed a 6-point gain in New Hampshire, and 4-point gains in Vermont and West Virginia from February to March. Trump, however, is still very much in the red overall in Vermont and New Hampshire.

But West Virginia, at +26, is the state where Trump enjoys his second-highest approval rating, a fact that could spell trouble for vulnerable Democratic Sen. Joe Manchin, whose up for re-election in November. Wyoming is No. 1 in Trump approval at +31.

On the other end of the spectrum, Trump's approval rating is putrid in three key battleground states he won in 2016 - Michigan, Wisconsin and Pennsylvania. He dropped 3 points in each from February to March, and he's in the red overall in all three:

  • Michigan: Minus-13 in approval overall.
  • Wisconsin: Minus-12 in approval.
  • Pennsylvania: Minus-8 in approval.

Morning Consult conducted surveys with 987,166 registered U.S. voters from Jan. 20, 2017 to March 31, 2018 to determine the approval ratings for Trump in each of the 50 states and Washington, D.C., for each month.
