A majority of voters believe that President Donald Trump and his company will benefit from proposed Republican changes to the tax code, but few voters believe they will personally benefit, according to a Wednesday Politico / Morning Consult poll.
According to the poll:
- 56 percent of voters believe Trump will personally benefit from the changes.
- 16 percent believe Trump will not benefit from the changes.
- 27 percent are not sure whether Trump will personally benefit.
About the Trump Organization:
- 57 percent believe the Trump Organization will benefit from the changes.
- 14 percent do not believe the Trump Organization will benefit.
As to whether voters believe the tax reform will help them personally, few appear convinced.
- 29 percent believe their families will benefit.
- 46 percent believe they will not.
- 25 percent don't know or do not have an opinion.
Breaking down the results by party lines, more Republicans believe the plan will help them.
- 56 percent of Republican voters believe the plan will help them, while only 13 percent of Democrats and 22 percent of independents believe that.
- 69 percent of Democrats believe the plan will not help them, while 20 percent of Republicans and 45 percent of independents share that negative view.
In other poll results, almost half of those who have heard of the tax reform plan support it.
- 47 percent support the reform plan, up 2 percent from the previous week.
- 40 percent oppose the reform plan, up 4 percent from the previous week.
The poll was conducted Nov. 9 -11 in a survey of 1,993 registered voters, with a 2 percentage point margin of sampling error, Politico reported.
Ivanka Trump, the president's daughter, said Monday that tax reform is a critical part of the plan to boost the economy.
