Only 38 percent of voters approve of the Senate Republican's healthcare bill, while 45 percent oppose it, a new Politico/Morning Consult poll revealed.
Here are the highlights of the poll:
- 38 percent said the Republican bill goes "too far" in making changes to the healthcare system; 23 percent said it does not go "far enough" and 17 percent said it makes the "right amount" of revisions.
- 41 percent said the bill makes the healthcare system worse; 29 percent said it improves it, while 11 percent said it does not make an impact either way.
- 60 percent of Republicans approve of the proposed healthcare bill, while 24 percent are against it.
- 25 percent of Democrats approve of the bill, compared to 64 percent who oppose it.
- 50 percent of all those polled approve of Obamacare and 43 percent disapprove.
"Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said Tuesday that the chamber would not take up the bill this week as previously planned," Politico's Steven Shepard wrote.
"The Politico/Morning Consult poll was conducted June 22-24 — prior to both of the Kentucky senator's Tuesday announcement and the release on Monday of the Congressional Budget Office's report on the bill's effects."
The rest of the survey breaks down like this:
- 45 percent of voters approve of the job Donald Trump is doing as president, while 51 percent disapprove.
- 33 percent trust Republicans in Congress to handle healthcare, compared to 46 percent who trust Democrats.
- 43 percent believe Nancy Pelosi should be replaced as House minority leader, compared to 26 percent who say she should remain in the post.
The poll surveyed 1,994 registered voters and has a margin of error of plus or minus 2 percentage points.
