Public support for impeachment proceedings to begin against President Donald Trump over his dealings with Ukraine jumped 3 points over the last week and is now close to 50%, according to a new survey.
Key results from the Politico/Morning Consult poll:
- 46% of voters said Congress should start impeachment proceedings, up from 43% one week ago after Democrats announced their probe.
- 43% said Congress should not start impeachment proceedings.
- 11% had no opinion on the matter.
- 51% support the impeachment inquiry.
- 56% approve of Trumps's job performance.
The 46% of voters who support starting impeachment proceedings against Trump is the highest figure in the Politico/Morning consult poll since it began tracking it in early 2018.
Democrats are probing whether Trump tried to use his office for political purposes during interactions with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy over the summer.
The poll of 2,488 registered voters was conducted from Sept. 27-30 and has a margin of error of plus or minus 2 percentage points.
