Moments after the special counsel’s office indicted 13 Russians on election meddling charges, former U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara took to Twitter Friday to blast President Donald Trump for not imposing sanctions on Russia, The Hill reports.
"How about some sanctions now, Mr. President?" Bharara tweeted after the charges were announced.
Noting that Trump has repeatedly called the Russia probe a "hoax," Bharara quickly followed up with another tweet giving the president the dictionary definition of the word.
Trump fired Bharara in May after he refused to resign. Bharara has been a frequent Trump critic ever since.
Congress passed a bill last May authorizing Trump to add new sanctions to Russia after reports surfaced that Russia meddled in the 2016 presidential election.
Trump signed the bill, but refused to add any sanctions. Aides said the legislation "was serving as a deterrent" in and of itself.
