U.S. Capitol Police made more than a dozen arrests Monday after protesters staged a sit-in at Sen. Chuck Schumer's office.
According to Roll Call, 17 people were taken into custody after refusing to leave. They were reportedly protesting Schumer's position as the likely Senate Minority Leader, demanding that the job be given to Sen. Bernie Sanders instead.
"People here are either going to meet with Schumer or get arrested," the group's leader Waleed Shahid said, reports Roll Call.
"Our goal is to show the Democratic party needs new leadership and they failed to protect us. We want Chuck Schumer to withdraw his name."
The group, which calls itself All of Us 2016, also likes the idea of Sen. Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts taking on the role of Minority Leader.
Roughly 40 people were at Monday's protest, Roll Call reports.
With Sen. Harry Reid of Nevada retiring, the Senate Minority Leader job is up for grabs. Schumer has been eyeing it all year, and is a virtual lock at earning the title.
Sanders is considering running for a Senate leadership position in this week's elections. He is not, however, looking at becoming Minority Leader.
