Activists groups led by Black Lives Matter and ShutDownDC plan to take to the streets to show opposition if President Donald Trump does not concede the election or challenges the election results, and "deliver a dose of democracy," Fox News reported.
Also, Choose Democracy has outlined plans to enact a "pressure campaign" on leaders "to publicly commit to ensuring that all votes are counted & the results are respected," according to the group's website.
There have been reports the group's plans have been in the works for months, including training sessions, according to the report.
Washington, D.C., New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, Seattle and Portland have seen some demonstrations and unrest overnight amid the election counting.
At the Capitol, ShutDownDC planned to gather across the street from the White House to "keep showing up and keep supporting each other until the people swear in the new government," according to the group's website.
"The polls have closed and record numbers of voters have cast their ballots in this election," the site read. "Now it's time to make sure that every single vote is counted, so we can preserve the pillars of democracy and build the future we want to live in.
"On November 4, we're going to put the media, the party establishments, and the big donors on notice — we're committed to defending democracy. After some short introductions, we'll step off to deliver a dose of democracy to some powerful institutions in Washington, D.C."
The demonstrations in front of the White House featured some skirmishes among protesters and police. Four people were arrested between Tuesday afternoon and Wednesday morning by D.C. police and a manhunt for a trio of suspects is ongoing for those who reportedly stabbed at least four people, including a Proud Boys leader, according to the report.
"We can't assume that Donald Trump will respect the peaceful transfer of power," Stand Up America's Sean Eldridge said in a statement last week, having plans since June to "mobilize" against a contested election.
