The protesters who destroyed property on Inauguration Day in Washington, D.C., were an organized group, The Washington Post reports.

More than 230 people were arrested within a four-square-block area in the downtown area on Friday and Saturday. The preparation by protesters was detailed, with some arriving with hammers and crowbars, according to police.

Some protesters broke store windows, set a parked limousine on fire and a broke the window of a city emergency vehicle. Prior to the protests, leaders of an umbrella group for the demonstration had operated a website and organized "street" medics to help protesters if they got injured.

The group later released a statement saying there were members of the group who were willing to be arrested.
