Hillary Clinton on Monday tweeted a clip from her October 2016 debate with President Donald Trump in which she implied he is a "puppet" of Russian President Vladimir Putin.

The former secretary of state and 2016 Democratic candidate for president tweeted the clip with the comment, "like I said: A puppet."

In the debate, Trump said Putin "has no respect" for Clinton, to which she replied: "Well, that's because he'd rather have a puppet as president."

Trump responded by repeating "no puppet" and "you're the puppet."

Clinton tweet comes shortly after The New York Times reported the FBI investigated whether Trump was working on behalf of Russia after he fired former FBI Director James Comey, and The Washington Post reported the president has "gone to extraordinary lengths" to hide the details of his face-to-face meetings with Putin.

Trump told reporters Monday he "never worked for Russia," and referred to Comey as "a bad cop" and "a dirty cop."
