Sixty-three percent of voters say the level of hatred and prejudice in the U.S. has increased since Donald Trump was elected president, according to a new Quinnipiac University poll.
Here are the poll highlights:
- 32 percent say the level of hatred and prejudice have not increased since Trump took office, while 2 percent believe it has decreased.
- 77 percent say prejudice against minority groups in the U.S. is a "very serious" or "somewhat serious" problem, while 15 percent say it is not so serious, and 7 percent say it is not a problem at all.
- 70 percent say prejudice against Jewish people is at least a "somewhat serious" problem, while 19 percent say it is not so serious, and another 10 percent say it is not a problem at all.
- 37 percent approve of Trump's response to bomb threats against Jewish community centers and vandalism in Jewish cemeteries, while 38 percent disapprove.
"Americans are concerned that the dark forces of prejudice and anti-Semitism are rearing their ugly heads," said Tim Malloy, assistant director of the Quinnipiac University Poll. "Voters are less than confident with the new administration's response."
Quinnipiac surveyed 1,323 voters nationwide from March 2-6. The poll has a margin of error of plan or minus 2.7 percentage points.
