CNN anchor Wolf Blitzer begged Trump campaign manager Kellyanne Conway on Tuesday to urge Donald Trump to stop pointing out journalists at his rallies because many have expressed fear of being attacked by supporters.
"What worries me, and I'm not objective," Blitzer began in an interview, saying he was on the steering committee of the nonprofit Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press.
"The journalists who are traveling with them all the time, he points to them," he said. "He sort of eggs the crowd on to go after them.
"There are a lot of young journalists. They're scared, sometimes. He shouldn't be doing that.
"Can you talk to him and say to him: 'Mr. Trump . . . these are hard-working young journalists and they deserve security,' because some of those Trump supporters out there can get pretty nasty?"
Conway responded: "Your first point, yes. I will tell him that."
She then said the only violence she has seen at Trump rallies were those highlighted in undercover videos by Project Veritas showing former Democratic operatives hiring protesters to create unrest at his events.
"The stink goes all the way up the chain, through the [Democratic National Committee] and other groups — and through Hillary Clinton's campaign," she said.
Conway then called for journalists, many of whom heavily post to Twitter, to be more objective and balanced in their coverage.
"The responsibility goes both ways."
