Most Democrats do not wish ill for Republican President-elect Donald Trump's presidency. A majority — 57 percent — hopes he succeeds, according to a Rasmussen Report poll released Thursday.
Out of all voters, most say they hope Trump succeeds:
- Want Trump to succeed: 73 percent.
- Want Trump to fail: 14 percent.
- Not sure: 12 percent.
Numbers vary based on the voters' party affiliation:
- Republicans: 91 percent.
- Democrats: 57 percent.
- Unaffiliated voters: 73 percent.
However, voters are split over whether they believe he will be a successful president.
- Trump more likely to be a success: 39 percent.
- Trump more likely to fail: 30 percent.
- Trump will fall somewhere in the middle: 26 percent.
Among Republicans, confidence in the real-estate mogul is higher that he will succeed at the White House:
- Republicans: 67 percent.
- Democrats: 17 percent.
- Unaffiliated: 35 percent.
Just over half of Democrats predict that Trump will most likely fail:
- Democrats: 52 percent.
- Republicans: 7 percent.
- Unaffiliated: 28 percent.
Rasmussen conducted the survey among 1,000 likely voters nationwide on Jan. 3 and 4, 2017, with a margin of error of plus or minus 3 percent.
