Far from a household name, Rebekah Mercer is a major player behind Donald Trump's message of disrupting and tearing down the GOP and D.C. establishment.

According to a Financial Times report, Mercer and her father, billionaire hedge fund manager Bob Mercer, have so far given more than $3 million in donations to Trump and the Republican National Committee with one common goal — tear it down and start over.

In fact, Politico found that the Mercers have donated nearly $75 million since 2010 to political causes, nearly $40 million of that to candidates.

The Times reports it was the Mercers who urged Trump to hire Kellyanne Conway and Breitbart chairman Steve Bannon, seemingly disparate choices, given Conway's affiliation with Texas Sen. Ted Cruz.

It's the Mercers who were adamant in their support of Trump even as others in the GOP abandoned him following recent controversies.

"America is finally fed up and disgusted with its political elite," the Mercers said in a statement after the damning audiotape emerged of Trump's lewd comments about women.

"Trump is channeling this disgust, and those among the political elite who quake before the boombox of media blather do not appreciate the apocalyptic choice that America faces on Nov. 8. We have a country to save and there is only one person who can save it."

Though Trump would not have been Rebekah Mercer's first choice to be the frontman for the revolution, he's the only one living up to the big donor's creed.

"If (Rebekah) were looking for Mr. Right, (Trump) wouldn't have been her choice," a Mercer friend told FT. "It's a choice of whether this person is going to do a decent job of advancing your principles . . . She thinks people aren't fighting hard enough. She wants to burn it."
