The debate rules are reportedly changing for next month's GOP presidential candidates' debate in Milwaukee – giving the contenders more time to answer questions.
According to
the New York Times, which cites an internal memo sent to candidates by debate sponsor Fox Business Network, opening statements also will be scrapped.
For the Nov. 10 debate, candidates will have 90 seconds to initially answer a question, and then 60 seconds for rebuttal. They'll also get a 30-second closing statement, the Times reports.
The changes come in the wake of the CNBC debate that roiled the GOP participants and Republican National Committee head
Reince Priebus, who accused the moderators of lobbing "one gotcha question, one personal low blow after the other."
The Fox Business Network debate parameters allow more time for answers than those in the Aug. 6 debate host by Fox News Channel, which gave candidates 60 seconds to answer a question and 30 seconds for a rebuttal. There were no opening statements at that debate either.
