Republican National Committee Communications Director Sean Spicer refused to comment on complaints made by some GOP candidates and pundits about the level of Donald Trump's conservative views. Instead, he said that the RNC is prepared to back him or whoever voters choose as the party's nominee.
"We'll have 15 great candidates take the stage," Spicer told
Fox News' "America's Newsroom" co-host Martha MacCallum on Wednesday. "You look at the quality and diversity in this field, it's historic."

He continued to MacCallum that he didn't want to seem to be evading her question about Trump, but it will be up to the voters, not the RNC, "to decide which candidate has the vision to go forward. They will throw some elbows and talk about who can carry on Ronald Reagan's legacy, but it will be up to the voters to decide."
The field of candidates seeking the nomination includes two Cuban American leaders, a world-renowned neurosurgeon, the first female Fortune 20 CEO, a successful business leader, former and current senators and governors — "these are amazing people."
And even though four of the candidates will be in an undercard debate, Spicer said, Carly Fiorina's turn on the lower stage gave her an "opportunity to shine."
Spicer added that all the candidates are approaching the campaign in different ways, and for Trump, "it's different because of his name recognition and the celebrity he brings to the race."
Spicer also commented that Trump's feelings about the RNC, which he initially accused of treating him unfairly, have changed.
"We treat all candidates with the same level of fairness and we believe it's best for the voters to decide," Spicer said. "Once Mr. Trump started to see that level of fairness did exist I think he felt comfortable with how he was being treated and reflected that in his comments."
