Senate Republicans are now taking a much more measured tone when it comes to dealing with impeachment, The Hill is reporting.

GOP senators had pledged earlier this year to quickly dismiss any articles of impeachment passed by the House. Despite the fact that no Senate Republican has said the allegations against President Donald Trump meet impeachment standards, many now appear to be taking the accusation more seriously, according to The Hill.

Sen. Tim Scott, R-S.C., was asked about the mounting allegations that Trump withheld military assistance from Ukraine to pressure Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy to investigate former Vice President Joe Biden.

"There's a lot of things that concern me," Scott said.

And he added, "That's not the question.

"The question on the table is impeachment and that's the question we should get an answer to, and the answer so far is, 'For what would we impeach the president?' And the answer is, 'I don't see anything for that.'"

But he noted: "Everybody wants us to do the right thing. In order to do the right thing, we want to see all that there is."

Sen. Shelley Moore Capito, R-W.Va., said the prospect of the Senate quickly dismissing articles of impeachment seems unlikely.

"I certainly think we need to hear it out from the House," she said. "This is a serious thing."

An unnamed Republican senator predicted Trump will have the support to survive the process, but said there are enough colleagues who feel they owe it to the public to give any articles of impeachment serious consideration.
