Former Gov. Rick Perry told Fox News' "America's Newsroom" that "our agencies in government are not doing enough to investigate" home-grown terrorism.

"The next president of the United States has to be serious about having our agencies of government, whether it's down on our southern border or the FBI, or wherever it may be, to get serious about the investigation of individuals who will do these types of horrific acts against citizens in this country," Perry told Fox News.

Perry railed against the fact that Omar Mateen, alleged shooter early Sunday at an Orlando nightclub that claimed at least 49 lives, had been investigated by the FBI at least two times back in 2013-2014.

"I think that really gets to the real crux of this," Perry said. "We need to have our agencies of government, particularly at the federal level, working together to identify this individual in Orlando who was investigated twice.

"A host of disturbing issues are coming up out of this."
