Special counsel Robert Mueller wants to question Steve Bannon about President Donald Trump's terminations of former FBI Director James Comey and former national security adviser Michael Flynn, CNN reports.

The Mueller-Bannon sitdown is set for sometime in the next week after Bannon agreed last week to a voluntary interview. He was originally subpoenaed by Mueller to appear before the grand jury.

Mueller also wants to probe what Bannon knows about the firing of acting attorney general Sally Yates and what if any influence Trump yielded over the Russia investigation, CNN reports.

Mueller's team interviewed Attorney General Jeff Sessions last week.

Bannon was fired from his job as White House chief strategist in August.
