Members of the House Freedom Caucus have put together articles of impeachment against Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein as a "last resort option."
The Washington Post obtained a copy of the draft, which outlines the case to impeach Rosenstein in eight points.
Rep. Mark Meadows, R-N.C., chairs the Freedom Caucus and led the effort to draft the document.
Meadows and other Republican lawmakers have grown frustrated with Rosenstein and the Department of Justice for not providing documents they have requested related to the Russia investigation.
Meadows said the draft is "a last resort option, if the Department of Justice fails to respond" to requests for information.
"My frustrations about their inability to respond to simple requests could warrant further action," Meadows said.
If the articles of impeachment against Rosenstein were to be introduced in Congress, the House Judiciary Committee would be responsible for taking them up and determining whether or not to formally introduce a measure to impeach Rosenstein on the House floor. A simple majority vote would send the measure to the Senate, where a two-thirds vote is needed.
With Republicans holding a two-seat majority in the Senate, it's unlikely Rosenstein would face the possibility of impeachment.
Rosenstein's job could still be in jeopardy because of the DOJ's handling of the Russia investigation. Some reports have claimed that President Donald Trump may fire Rosenstein, particularly after Trump's personal lawyer Michael Cohen was subjected to multiple FBI raids at his offices, hotel room, and apartment in early April.
