Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul labeled Massachusetts Senate candidate Elizabeth Warren “a socialist” and decried the public school system as socialism as well, The Hill reports.

ABC News asked the Texas representative about comments from Warren in which she maintained that the construction of the United States was possible only because the government provided infrastructure, education and security. Warren said, “part of the underlying social contract is you take a hunk of that and pay forward for the next kid who comes along.”

ABC News reporter Terry Moran asked Paul why Warren was incorrect. “Because she’s a socialist,” Paul said.

Moran then asked Paul whether public schools are socialist. “When the state runs things, that’s a socialist thing,” he responded. “I preach home schooling and private schooling and competition.”
