The opening frame of a new campaign ad from GOP presidential contender Sen. Marco Rubio, titled "Morning Again" and featuring a picture-perfect, sun-dappled urban harbor, was actually filmed in Canada.
"It's morning again in America," the ad begins, echoing Ronald Reagan's legendary 1984 ad. "Today, more men and women are out of work than ever before in our nation's history."
But a closer look shows a tugboat sporting a small Canadian flag, the Harbour Centre tower and cranes of Port Metro Vancouver – all proving to be a scene from right over America's northern border, the
Vancouver Sun reports.
The stock footage was shot by Vancouver-based videographer Guy Chavasse, the
CBC reports.
"It's a good-looking video, no doubt, but it's pretty recognizable as Vancouver," he tells the CBC, adding that he had no idea the video was being used in the campaign.
"Ha! Nice catch by
BuzzFeed — we hadn't noticed that," a Rubio spokesman tells the media outlet.
"We are not going to make Canada an issue in this election."
The embarrassing photo goof isn't a 2016 presidential campaign first. In September, a super PAC supporting former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush
released a campaign ad using stock images from the United Kingdom and parts of southeast Asia as stand-ins for America.
And in January, a Donald Trump
campaign ad on border security showed footage of African migrants running from Morocco into Spain.
