Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani on Wednesday said Hillary Clinton's "soft stance on Islamic terrorism" is why the father of the Orlando nightclub shooter was at her Florida rally.
Appearing on ABC's "Good Morning America," Giuliani asked, "Why is he such an avid supporter? What is drawing him to Hillary Clinton?
"I believe it's her soft stance on Islamic extremist terrorism, which she and the president have had since the president's been in office," Giuliani said.
Seddique Mateen, the father of the terrorist responsible for the massacre in Orlando two months ago, was spotted in the audience at a Clinton campaign rally in Kissimmee, Florida.
Giuliani said Mateen had been invited to the rally, but according to The New York Times, the Clinton campaign put out a statement saying, "This individual wasn't invited as a guest and the campaign was unaware of his attendance until after the event."
Clinton spokesman Nick Merrill emailed reporters to disavow his appearance at the rally, reports the Times, saying the Democratic nominee "disagrees with his views and disavows his support."
During the Florida rally, Clinton expressed her support for the survivors and families of the terror attack's victims, reports WPTV.com.
"I know how many people, families, loved ones, and friends are still grieving, and we will be with you as you rebuild your lives," Clinton said.
Donald Trump's running mate Mike Pence slammed the media coverage of Mateen's appearance, saying Mateen expressed his support for Clinton because she's "quote, good on national security," Pence said, according to the Times.
"Now the media's not talking about that, I expect, because Hillary Clinton's been a disaster on national security," he added.
Mateen told WPTV he supports Clinton because she "is good for United States versus Donald Trump, who has no solutions." He attended the rally because, "It's a Democratic Party, so everyone can join."
