DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum says he's in no hurry to decide whether to seek the Republican presidential nomination and might not make up his mind until the summer.
But he says no one seems to be in a rush to announce a 2012 run for the White House.
During a stop Tuesday in Des Moines, Santorum said delaying a campaign helps him and other little-known candidates by allowing them to quietly make connections with activists in key early states, such as Iowa.
Many potential Republican candidates, including Santorum, said last fall they would announce their plans early this year. But so far, most are keeping quiet.
Santorum says the first major test for GOP candidates in Iowa will be the August straw poll sponsored by the state's Republican Party.
