President Donald Trump advised older teachers, who may be more susceptible to catching the coronavirus, to stay home when schools reopen.

During a Wednesday appearance on Fox News’ “Fox & Friends,” Trump recommended that teachers “in a certain age group” not return to the classroom when school resumes from summer break.

“If a teacher’s in a certain age group, I think they shouldn’t be going in and probably they’ll have to wait until the thing goes by,” Trump said.

Trump has advocated for the reopening of schools this fall. He has pushed for students to return to in-classroom learning. Many large school districts have announced that school will start virtually with distance learning.

Trump shared that the coronavirus would have been much worse if he didn’t shut down international travel.

He added that the virus will go away.

“This thing’s going away. It will go away like things go away,” the president said.
