Former Sen. Scott Brown went after Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren, saying that she should take a DNA test to prove her claims of having Cherokee heritage.
"She's not Native American, she's not 1/32nd, she has no Native American background, except what her family told her," Brown told reporters,
according to CNN.
Brown said that Warren could authorize the release of her records to prove her heritage, but he claims she has never attempted to do so.
"She can take a DNA test, she can release the records herself. But there's never been any effort," Brown said, according to the CNN report.
Brown said that Warren claiming Native American heritage is demeaning to those with more of a Native American background. He said Warren's claiming the heritage is "a reverse form of racism, quite frankly," according to CNN.
While Warren has been mentioned as a possible running mate for Clinton, Brown said Clinton had better options than Warren. He said Virginia Sen. Tim Kaine and New Jersey Sen. Cory Booker were "more vetted, more logical choices."
Brown has encountered Warren in politics before. Warren defeated Brown for U.S. Senate in Massachusetts in 2012. During that race, before Donald Trump used the name "Pocahontas" as a derogatory nickname for Warren, supporters of Brown used it,
according to the New Hampshire Union Leader.
Warren has slammed presumptive Republican nominee Donald Trump during appearances with Hillary Clinton.
Mashable compiled a list of Warren's put downs of Trump, including calling him a "nasty man who will never be president of the United States."
Brown, a Fox News commentator, does not have an official role in the Trump campaign. He calls himself a "supporter" and a "counsel" for Trump,
according to the Boston Globe.
