In what some may consider a symbolic act in 21st century journalism, former White House press secretary Sean Spicer turned his official Twitter handle over to current press secretary Sarah Sanders on Friday night, the New York Daily News reported.

"Today, I'm turning the @PressSec handle over to Sarah. It's been an incredible honor sharing @POTUS' message with over 2M followers each day," he tweeted.

Spicer resigned his position July 21 — the same day President Donald Trump named Anthony Scaramucci White House communications director.

Though Spicer said he wanted to "give the president and the new team a clean slate," it was reported before Spicer resigned he told Trump he didn't think Scaramucci was qualified enough, the News reported.

Scaramucci was on the job 10 days before being forced out when Trump named former Homeland Security Secretary John Kelly to the position of White House chief of staff.

Sanders responded to Spicer, tweeting "#AmericaMustReallyLoveYou."
