A Republican lawmaker fired off a warning Monday to anyone who dares criticize the late Sen. John McCain, who died over the weekend.
"I don't know what's going to be said in the next few days about John McCain . . . but anybody who in any way tarnishes the reputation of John McCain deserves a whipping, because most of the ones who would do the wrong thing about John McCain didn't have the guts to do the right thing when it was their turn," Sen. Johnny Isakson, R-Ga., said on the Senate floor.
"So, I would say to the president or anybody in the world, it's time to pause and say this was a great man. He gave everything for us. We owe him nothing less than the respect that he earned. That's what I intend to give John in return for what he gave me."
Trump and McCain did not get along, and for much of the day Monday, the American flag at the White House was flying at full-staff despite most other flags flying at half-staff to honor McCain. Around 3:30 p.m. ET, however, the White House flag was lowered to half-staff. Soon after, Trump released a statement about the longtime lawmaker who succumbed to brain cancer Saturday.
