Confirming President Donald Trump’s judicial nominees is still a priority for Republicans, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said during a radio interview Tuesday.
Despite the coronavirus pandemic, the Republican senator from Kentucky told radio host Hugh Hewitt the Senate would return to confirming Trump’s selections once they reconvene. The Senate is currently set to return on May 4.
"As soon as we get back in session, we’ll start confirming judges again. We need to have hearings, and we need to confirm judges," McConnell said. “My motto for the year is leave no vacancy behind. That hasn’t changed. The pandemic will not prevent us from achieving that goal.”
Republicans have raced to confirm Trump's judicial nominees, setting a record for the pace of confirming appeals court judges, according to The Hill.
Since Trump took office, the Senate has confirmed 193 judicial nominations, including two Supreme Court picks and 51 appeals judges.
