House Democrats' messaging efforts are apparently working, as sentiment for removing President Donald Trump from office for his foreign policy actions is rising and approaching 50% of Americans, according to the latest NBC News/Wall Street Journal Poll.
The plurality of Americans on impeachment and removal from office has flipped to 49% in favor vs. 46 opposed – just a month after the numbers were reverse and against it 49% to 43%, according to the report.
Impeachment is even more polarizing and partisan, however. Just 6% of Republicans back it compared to 11% a month ago.
"It's a very locked-down electorate," the polls Democratic pollster Peter Hart said.
Coincidentally, President Trump's approval rating rose 2 points to 45% in the poll.
"We're not seeing a change at all in Trump's standing," GOP pollster Bill McInturff said.
As for the Democratic presidential primary candidates in the poll, Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., (19%) has cut into the edge of leaders Joe Biden (27%) and Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass. (23%). South Bend, Indiana, Mayor Pete Buttigieg was fourth at 6%, while Sen. Amy Klobuchar, D-Minn., finally cracked the top five at 5%.
In hypothetical matchups against Trump:
- Biden leads 50%-41%
- Warren leads 50%-42%.
The NBC News/Wall Street Journal polled 900 Americans from Oct. 27-30, with a margin of error of plus or minus 3.27 percentage points.
